Purpose

Focused on programme data — the information needed to implement, manage, and improve humanitarian and development programmes.

The Information Management (IM) Handbook aims to establish standardized and consistent IM practices across Country Offices (CO) and programs. By providing clear guidelines and best practices, it enhances data quality, supports evidence-based decision-making, and ensures data protection and privacy. The handbook serves as a tool to improve efficiency, promote accountability and transparency, and facilitate collaboration among teams and stakeholders. Additionally, it supports capacity building for staff, strengthens program impact through effective monitoring and evaluation, and ensures adaptability to evolving operational needs and technological advancements while aligning with organizational strategic objectives.

The IM Handbook will consolidate existing knowledge and resources, and provide practical as well as strategic guidance on IM practices and standards. While IM can theoretically cut across an entire organisation, the scope of the handbook will be limited to programme data, that is data required to implement and steer programmes.
